Building Financial Confidence with Lifesavers and Milo’s Money

At Whitehouse PRU School, we understand the importance of financial literacy as part of a well-rounded education. To support our pupils in developing essential money management skills, we have integrated the Lifesavers and Milo’s Money resources into our curriculum. These programmes are tailored to engage young learners and provide them with the tools needed to make informed financial decisions from an early age.

Milo’s Money Storybook

Designed specifically for Key Stage 1 (KS1), the Milo’s Money storybook introduces young children to key financial concepts through engaging storytelling. Pupils not only enjoy the adventures of Milo but also dive deeper into important themes such as:

  • Spending and Saving: Understanding the balance between enjoying money now and putting some aside for the future.
  • Wants and Needs, and Sharing: Helping pupils differentiate between necessities and luxuries while promoting generosity.
  • Multiplying Money and Being Generous: Teaching how money can grow and the importance of giving back.
  • Making Choices: Empowering children to make thoughtful financial decisions.

Through this structured approach, students build a solid foundation of understanding that evolves as they grow.

The 5 Big Questions About Money

In addition to the storybook, we explore key financial topics using The 5 Big Questions About Money. This resource is designed for use across the entire school and can be combined with Milo’s Money to provide a comprehensive learning experience. Each question is explored throughout the school year, ensuring continuous engagement and development.

  1. Where does our money come from? (Blue) – Exploring income sources and the value of work.
  2. How does money make us feel? (Orange) – Discussing the emotional impact of money and financial decision-making.
  3. What can we use money for? (Pink) – Highlighting spending, saving, and investment options.
  4. How does our money help other people? (Green) – Teaching the importance of charitable giving and community support.
  5. How can we look after our money? (Red) – Promoting responsible saving, budgeting, and financial planning.

By addressing these five critical questions, our students gain the knowledge and confidence they need to navigate real-world financial situations. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to personal safety, self-care, and holistic development.

Through programmes like Lifesavers and Milo’s Money, Whitehouse PRU School continues to prepare pupils for a financially secure and responsible future, giving them the skills they need to thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
